Villanova continues to cruise so far this season, improving to 10-0 this afternoon with a victory over La Salle at the Pavilion. The Explorers kept things close through the first half, but the Wildcats proved to be too much in the end, as a big second half led to a 73-52 rout by Villanova.
It was a close game early, as Jerrell Wright single-handedly kept the Explorers in the game. Wright scored La Salle's first 8 points in the game and had 18 in the first half.
Villanova led by as much as 8, with La Salle trailing 27-19 with under seven minutes remaining in the half. The Explorers would keep it close however, going to the locker room down just 38-34 to the nationally-ranked Wildcats.
The Wildcats received a balanced first half effort, with Darrun Hilliard and Josh Hart leading the way with 9 points apiece.
It would be all Villanova in the second half, as the Wildcats opened the half on a 15-5 run on their way to outscoring the Explorers 35-18. Behind a dominant second half and a balanced lineup, the Wildcats walked away with a73-52 win in the end.
Hilliard added 12 points in the second half to finish with 21 in the contest, as he led all scorers in the game. Hart finished with 13 off the bench and Kris Jenkins added 11 in a reserve role as well, as Villanova cruised to its first 10-0 start since the 2005-2006 season.
While Wright was able to keep the Explorers in the game in the first half, he was shut down in the second half, scoring just 2 points to finish with 20 overall.
Villanova will be back in action on Saturday, as they welcome the Rider Broncos to the Pavilion.
The loss drops La Salle to 5-5 on the season and the Explorers will look to move back above the .500 mark on Thursday against Wagner.
