![]() Defense was a major point of weakness for Temple last season, when the Owls allowed 78.1 points per game. Oh what a difference a year can make. The Owls entered Saturday’s contest allowing just 62.1 points per game, and they would put that vastly improved defense on display against Tulane. Temple would hold the Green Wave to just eight first half points, the lowest amount ever scored in a half at the Liacouras Center, on their way to a 55-37 win. After going into the locker room down 41-28 at halftime, Saint Joseph's came out like a bat out of hell and went on a 20-3 run to start the second half, en route to the 75-70 win. Aaron Brown had a career high 20 points, while DeAndre Bembry led the Hawks with 21 points. Peyton Aldridge led all scorers with 24 points.
Tonight marked the Ivy League home opener for the Penn Quakers, who dropped their first division contest to Princeton 3 weeks ago. The Quakers were riding some momentum after defeating Big 5 rival Saint Joseph's last week and earning a moral victory for pushing Villanova to the edge 2 weeks ago. Dartmouth also had some momentum, having just beat the defending Ivy League champion and preseason favorite Harvard.
After a slow start to the game by both teams, the Penn offense took over in the second half led by Matt Howard's 18 points, a season and career high for the sophomore. Tony Hicks and Greg Louis chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively as the Quakers held on for closely contested 58-51 win. ![]() Will Cummings continued to prove he is the driving force behind Temple's success on Wednesday night. The senior point guard had missed time recently due to a leg injury, as the Owls found themselves in the midst of a three-game losing streak. Since Cummings' return to the lineup last week, however, Temple looks much more like the squad that strung together six straight wins, including victories over #10 Kansas and defending national champion UConn. Cummings, a Jacksonville, FL native, would put up 14 points during Temple's trip to his home state on Wednesday, as the Owls dominated UCF, 86-62. In the 120th meeting of the two teams, La Salle was able to top Saint Joseph's by a final score of 53-48. Saint Joseph's leads the series between the two 64-56, but the Explorers were able to narrow that gap with the win. DeAndre Bembry led all scorers with 20 points, while Jerrell Wright led the Explorers in scoring with 19 points.
![]() Basketball is a team sport. Unfortunately for Phil Martelli and his Saint Joseph’s squad, they were taught that lesson the hard way yet again on Saturday night at the Cathedral of College Basketball, the Palestra. Despite a 25-point effort from sophomore star DeAndre’ Bembry, the Hawks found themselves unable to complete a furious rally down the home stretch in a 56-52 loss to Big 5 rival U Penn. After falling behind 28-22 at the half, Drexel came out much more focused and was able to steal one away from the Cougars by a final score of 53-51. Damion Lee led all scorers with 21 points, while the College of Charleston's Canyon Barry led the Cougars with 16 points.
