Lafayette Edges Penn 79-76
Penn and Lafayette played each other hard today. Neither team ever really had a sizable lead, but ultimately Lafayette prevailed and stole a 79-76 victory from the Quakers.
Villanova Upsets #2 Kansas
Villanova faced off against #2 Kansas in the Battle for Atlantis Friday night and handed the Jayhawks their first loss of the season. Ryan Arcidiacono hit a 3-pointer with just 10.1 seconds remaining to regain the lead for the Wildcats, as they would hold on to stun Kansas 63-59.
After a narrow loss to #4 Arizona on Wednesday, the Dragons were back in action tonight, as they faced Alabama in the NIT Season Tip-Off. Drexel was in control in the first half, but struggled down the stretch, needing three overtimes to finally emerge with an 85-83 win.
Saint Joes Slays Siena
After a hearty pep talk from Mickey Mouse and Co, the Hawks went out there looking to rebound from their tough loss to LSU yesterday. The pep talk seemed to have worked as St Joe's got off to a terrific start in defeating the Saints 78-66.
Saint Joseph's Mauled by Tigers
The Hawks were back in action for the first time since a close loss to Creighton on November 19, as they faced LSU in the opening round of the Old Spice Classic. Hot shooting, especially from beyond the arc, guided the Tigers, as they cruised past the Hawks by a score of 82 to 65.
The Wildcats traveled to the Battle for Atlantis today, as they conquered the USC Trojans. Building a big lead early, Villanova utilized a balanced attack throughout to overwhelm USC on their way to a 93-79 win.
For the second time on this young season Drexel faced a ranked opponent, and for the second time, the Dragons came up just short. After a furious start to the contest saw Drexel take a big lead early, the Dragons were unable to maintain the momentum and fell in the end 66-62 to fourth-ranked Arizona.
Penn Gets Up for Niagara
Tony Hicks went off tonight for the Quakers, scoring a career high 33 points. Miles Jackson-Cartwright added 13 as Penn went on to defeat the Niagara Purple Eagles 85-66.
The Explorers wrapped up a forgettable trip to St. Thomas tonight, as they were dominated by Northern Iowa. After winning their opening round matchup against a dreadful Morgan State squad on Friday night, La Salle fell to undefeated Providence on Sunday. Finishing up their trip to the islands tonight, the Explorers were manhandled by Northern Iowa, falling 65-50.
La Salle Falls to Providence
With a victory over Morgan State on Friday night, La Salle earned a berth in the semifinals of the Paradise Jam. Waiting for the Explorers were the undefeated Providence Friars. In a tight contest, La Salle fell short, losing 71-63 in the end.
