It was all Hawks from the get-go, as Saint Joseph's jumped to a big lead early, cruising to a 71-44 victory. Saint Joseph's entered the afternoon looking for their fourth straight win. This one hurt for Penn. Up 13 with a little under 7 minutes left, Penn let the game slip away from them, costing them a much-needed win. The Quakers have now dropped 5 in a row and have not won at all during the month of December. Ultimately the out-of-conference play does not matter, but it would be good for Penn to go into Ivy League play with a morale boost.
The 7-5 Boston University Terriers visit Hagan Arena Sunday afternoon, as they square off with the 6-4 Saint Joseph’s Hawks. The Hawks come in flying high after cruising to victory in their past two contests, while the Terriers have struggled as of late, dropping three of their past four, including two overtime losses.
Villanova visited Syracuse at the Carrier Dome this afternoon in a clash between two unbeaten squads. After dominating in the opening minutes, the Wildcats cooled off as the Orange defense began to bare down. Dominating the final 30 minutes of play, Syracuse was able to walk away with a 78-62 win.
In a battle of Top 10 squads, the #8 Villanova Wildcats will visit the #2 Syracuse Orange at the Carrier Dome Saturday afternoon. The matchup pairs two of the nation’s finest squads and former Big East rivals, prior to Syracuse’s move to the ACC this season.
Some movement around the middle of the rankings this week, as La Salle, Temple and Drexel all struggled a bit, but make no mistake over who the top team in the city is. Let's get started.
After seeing their four game win streak snapped against St. Joe's last Wednesday, Drexel was able to start a new winning streak Sunday afternoon, by defeating the Saint Francis Red Flash 59-49. The win improves the Dragons to 8-3 on the season, and keeps them undefeated at home with a 4-0 record at the John A. Daskalakis Center.
![]() La Salle visited the Miami Hurricanes this afternoon in a battle of two Sweet 16 squads from last season's NCAA Tournament. The Explorers struggled to find their rhythm throughout the contest on their way to a 71-58 loss. The Explorers would jump out to a lead in the opening minutes of the contest, holding a 12-7 advantage over Miami. The Hurricanes would respond with a 10-0 run to take a 17-12 lead and would never look back, heading to the locker room up 34-24. The Penn Quakers have not played a basketball game in 15 days, since their December 7 loss to Wagner. Those 15 days off did not help the Quakers at all as they were easily dispatched by the Marist Red Foxes on the road today 76-62.
