Temple Knocks Off Defending National Champion UConn

Temple picked up their fourth straight win of the season Wednesday afternoon, giving them 10 wins before heading to 2015 portion of the season.

While there is still plenty of season remaining and lots of work to be done, the Owls have already achieved one of their goals: topping last season's win total.

Temple did so with a 57-53 overtime win over defending national champion Connecticut on the road, as the Owls kicked off their conference schedule.

Saint Joseph's Falls to Denver in OT

Saint Joseph's squandered a seven-point lead over the final 5:10 of regulation time on Monday night against Denver, as the Pioneers forced the Hawks into overtime.

Denver would go on to score the first five points in the extra period on their way to a 77-73 overtime victory over the Hawks.

The Pioneers came out of the gate firing, taking a 15-4 lead just 4:20 into the contest, but Saint Joseph's would respond with a 13-1 run over the next 3:39 of play to take their first lead of the game at 17-16.

City 6 Rankings: Week 7

While there weren’t too many games this week for the City 6 schools, there was plenty of action, as Temple knocked off #10 Kansas in a 25-point rout. It was Christmas come early for Fran Dunphy and his squad following Monday’s big win, but things are just beginning to heat up as teams prepare for the start of conference play.

Bond and Morgan Key in Temple Win Over Delaware State

Jaylen Bond would key a quick start for the Temple Owls on Sunday afternoon against Delaware State, polishing the glass and finding the basket.

Behind eight points and eight rebounds from Bond early, the Owls would jump out to a 16-5 lead midway through the first half.

The Hornets would threaten a bit in the second half, but with the help of improved shooting from beyond the arc, Temple was able to hang on for a 66-56 win.

Villanova Brushes Off Threat From N.J.I.T.

After falling behind 44-41 at the half, the Wildcats went out and played a much better second half en route to a 92-67 victory over the Highlanders. Dylan Ennis led all scorers with 17 points on 6-12 shooting. Damon Lynn led N.J.I.T. in scoring with 13 points.

Temple Upsets #10 Kansas in Dominant Fashion

The Temple Owls received an early Christmas present this year: Jesse Morgan and Devin Coleman.

It appears to be exactly what the Owls wanted.

Since becoming eligible before last Thursday’s contest, the duo of transfers have made their presence felt, especially Morgan.

Morgan topped a 16-point performance in his Temple debut with a 17-point game Monday night, as he helped key Temple’s dominant upset of #10 Kansas, 77-52.

City 6 Rankings: Week 6

As we get closer and closer to conference play, teams are beginning to round into form. Over the past few weeks, the City 6 has seen some teams trend upward, while others have already spiraled into a fiery wreck (looking at you Drexel). Without further adieu, lets get into the week six City 6 Rankings.

Side Note: For those of you who noticed we haven’t written an actual post about the rankings for the past two weeks, we thank you for your attention to detail.

Price Goes For 31 In Win Over Towson

Jordan Price set a new career high in points with 31 in the 67-53 win over Towson. This is his second career 30 point game, the first coming in the 73-60 win against St. Francis earlier in the year. Price also had 3 rebounds and 2 assists in the contest. Guard Four McGlynn led the Tigers in scoring with 14 points, and also led all scorers with the coolest first name.

Saint Joseph’s Handles Marist on the Road

Saint Joseph’s returned from an 11-day break in action on Saturday, as they visited Marist.

The Hawks would look well rested upon return, wasting little time in dispatching the Red Foxes in a 75-58 win to improve to 6-4 on the season.

Villanova Rallies To Force Overtime, Steal Game from Syracuse

Villanova seemed all but destined to pick up their first loss of the season Saturday afternoon at the Wells Fargo Center.

After trailing by as much as 15 against Syracuse, the seventh-ranked Wildcats battled back and found themselves down five with just 17 seconds remaining. That’s when Villanova would show great poise and prove they belong in discussions with the top tier teams in the nation.

Over the course the finals 17 seconds, the Wildcats would make a ferocious rally, tying the game with just 4.2 seconds remaining to force overtime, where they would eventually top the Orange 82-77.
