College basketball season officially kicks off this week and we at the BSB couldn't be happier. If you need any more reason to get excited, please see the below tweet from Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.

This will be the last Sunday until April without college basketball. Enough said.

Before the season starts, we'd like to go ahead and hand out some preseason awards based on how we think the season will play out. Let's get started.

Preseason BSB All-City 6 Team
Will Cummings (Senior, Guard, Temple)
  • The Owls may not have won many games last season, but they still had quite a few exciting players to watch. Cummings was one of them, as he averaged 16.8 PPG and 4.6 APG, and will be relied on to lead the Owls program back to its previous standards.

Damion Lee (RS Junior, Guard, Drexel)
  • Lee was sidelined five games into the season last year after tearing his ACL. As a sophomore in 2012-2013, the Dragons' guard averaged 17.1 PPG and 5.1 RPG. Finally healthy, look for Lee to return to a form similar to that of his sophomore campaign.

Jerrell Wright (Senior, Forward, La Salle)
  • With the loss of much of its lineup from a year ago, La Salle will rely even more on Wright in his senior campaign. The 6-8 forward averaged 13.3 PPG and 6.6 RPG a year ago and has plenty of room for improvement. Look for a big year from Wright as he steps into the spotlight for La Salle.

DeAndre' Bembry (Sophomore, Forward, Saint Joseph's)
  • A 6-6 forward out of North Carolina, Bembry stormed onto the scene last season as a freshman at Saint Joseph's. The A-10 Co-Rookie of the Year and Big 5 Rookie of the Year last season, Bembry scored double-digit points in 25 of the Hawks' 34 games and averaged 12.1 PPG, 4.5RPG and 2.7APG.

JayVaughn Pinkston (RS Senior, Forward, Villanova)
  • A 6-7 forward, Pinkston is difficult to stop down low, averaging 14.1 PPG on 52.1 percent shooting last season for the Wildcats. Pinkston polishes the glass as well, as he pulled down 6.1 RPG a season ago, and should be poised for a big campaign as a senior.

Preseason Player of the Year
Will Cummings (Senior, Guard, Temple)
  • Cummings ran the point for the Owls the past two seasons and did a fine job. Last season was really the first time he was asked to step up and fill up the stat sheet, however, which he did to the tune of 16.8 PPG and 4.6 APG. Cummings has the ability to get to the free-throw line and is a solid defensive player as well. Look for a big year from Cummings in 2014-2015, as he looks to lead the Owls back to the promised land of the NCAA Tournament.

Preseason Rookie of the Year
James Demery (Freshman, Guard, Saint Joseph's)
  • Demery, a highly-touted recruit from a strong 2014 class out of North Carolina, has the ability to get to the rim and finish and is seen as somewhat of a pure scorer. It will likely be trial by fire for Demery, who could find himself starting from day one on an inexperienced Hawks squad.
Mikal Bridges from Villanova may be the more highly-touted prospect in the City 6, but on a team like Villanova, he could find himself fighting hard for minutes. As a result, I see Demery posting a more impressive freshman campaign.

Preseason Comeback Player of the Year
Damion Lee (RS Junior, Guard, Drexel)
  • This one is somewhat of a no-brainer. Lee was a stud for the Dragons in his sophomore campaign in 2012-2013,  averaging 17.1 PPG and 5.1 RPG. Drexel got off to a solid start last season before Lee tore his ACL in the fifth game of the season, knocking him out for the year. Now fully healthy, look for Lee to return to his previous form and be the leader of the Dragons.
