It was a typical solid year for Temple in 2012-13, as the Owls finished the season with a record of 24-10 and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament, their sixth straight appearance. Temple won their first game of the tournament before Indiana ended their season, but the Owls had a season to be proud of.
Temple returns two starters from last year's squad, but will need to replace a big hole left in the lineup by the departure of Khalif Wyatt. Wyatt, recently released by the Sixers and now signed with a Chinese team, averaged 20.5 points per game as a senior, leading the way for the Owls. The Owls also lose Scootie Randall, who averaged 11.3 and 6.3 rebounds per game.
The Owls will look to junior forward Anthony Lee for leadership in the 213-14 campaign. The 6'9" Maryland native comes off a 2012-13 season that saw him average 9.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Fran Dunphy and his Owls will look for Lee to improve on those numbers from a year ago and help make up for the points lost from Wyatt and Randall.
At the guard position, Temple will look to senior Dalton Pepper and junior Will Cummings to pick up the slack. The guards averaged just under 9 points per game combined last year and will need to improve those numbers vastly if the Owls hope to make their seventh straight NCAA Tournament.
With Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson, Jake O'Brien and T.J. Dileo all departed from the Owls as well, Temple will need plenty of fresh faces to step up in 2013-14 if they want to put together the type of season that has become the norm for the Owls.
Picked to finish fifth in the American Athletic Conference, don't count the Owls out. Under the guidance of Dunphy, Temple has been fantastic and the coach will look to get the best out of his squad yet again.
