The Wildcats put together a solid season in 2012-13. Expected to experience some growing pains, Villanova matured rapidly and finished the season with a 20-14 record. The Wildcats season came to an end in the first (I guess it's now called the second) round with a close loss to UNC, but the potential in the roster had been revealed. Villanova enters 2013-14 with a good stock of talent on the roster and will be a team to watch this season.
The Wildcats will be led by sophomore guard Ryan Arcidiacono, who is coming off a fantastic freshman campaign that saw him average 11.9 points and 3.5 assists per game. Arcidiacono has the ability to take over a game and is a great leader at such a young age. Villanova will look to him and others to guide the young talent they brought in for this season.
Arcidiacono will have help at the guard position from talented junior Darrun Hilliard. The Bethlehem, PA, native comes off a season in which he averaged 11.4 points per game and should form a fantastic combo at the guard position with Arcidiacono.
Villanova will find balance on the roster as they look down low to junior forward JayVaughn Pinkston. Pinkston averaged 13.3 points and 5 rebounds per game last season and will look to improve on those numbers with another offseason to grow as a player.
Villanova adds talented freshman forwards Kris Jenkins, Darryl Reynolds and guard Josh Hart to the roster to help strike a nice balance of youth and experience on the squad. With a balanced roster that possesses explosive scoring ability when playing well, the Wildcats could do big things in 2013-14.
