Drexel visited the left-coast to open their 2013-14 season at midnight against #22 UCLA. The Dragons looked much improved from a season ago, as they gave the Bruins all they could handle in the contest, falling in the end by a score of 72-67.
The Bruins outplayed the Dragons in the first half to head to the locker rooms at Pauley Pavilion with a 42-31 lead, but Drexel would emerge from the locker room ready to prove just how far they have come from a season ago.
Drexel outscored UCLA 36-30 in the second half, closing to within 3 points with just seconds remaining. The Dragons would fail to complete the comeback, but proved worthy of sharing the same court with the nationally ranked Bruins.
The Dragons efforts were led by senior guard Frantz Massenat, who scored 20 points in the game. Junior guard Damion Lee helped lead the way for Drexel as well, scoring 17 points, as the Dragons received excellent play overall from their guards in the contest.
Forward Dartaye Ruffin grabbed 13 rebounds in the game, helping Drexel to outrebound the Bruins 39-38 in the contest. Ruffin added 8 points as well, as he helped the Dragons in the paint against UCLA.
Drexel will next head to Redbird Arena, as they face the Illinois State Redbirds on November 12.
