In a heated battle between the Saint Joseph's Hawks and the Drexel Dragons, it was Saint Joe's who walked away victorious. After trailing Drexel 27-23 at halftime, the Hawks rallied and went on an impressive run throughout the second half, scoring 52 as opposed to the Dragons' own 28 second half points.
The main contributor for the Hawks was big man Halil Kanacevic, who finished the game with a monstrous 27 points, 14 rebounds and four assists. He played tremendously well on defense, as he did a great job of protecting the rim and even finished with two blocks. Halil had a very effective game as well, going 12-13 from the field. Kanacevic is a very versatile player, and showed his versatility off to everyone who watched tonight. DeAndre Bembry also played well, scoring 18 points and 3 assists.
The Hawks' second half was one of the best halves of basketball they played all year, and it showed the potential that this team has. One thing they can improve upon is finding that bonafide bench contributor. Their starting lineup scored all 75 of the team's points, which was enough to lead them to victory this time, but it won't be enough to guarantee a win every game. Having a contributor off the bench can go a long way in giving the starters some breathing room.
It was an off night for the Dragons, who normally see better performances from their starting five. Tavon Allen finished with 20 points and had an impressive outing, but Fouch and Massenat struggled to get it going against the Hawks. Even Ruffin only finished with five rebounds all game. These three are normally much better players, and it's very rare that you see all three of them go cold in the same night, so don't panic too much Dragons fans. This is still the same team that came within a few points of defeating Arizona earlier in the year. Expect the Dragons to bounce back next game.
Next Game for Saint Joseph's: Saturday, December 21st @ Loyola 3pm
Next Game for Drexel: Sunday, December 22nd vs St. Francis 2pm
