In the battle of Philly natives, it was La Salle who emerged victorious by a final score of 65-55. Cleon Roberts led the Explorers in scoring with 15 points, while Damion Lee led all scorers with 19 points.
It was a sloppy game for both teams, with the two combining for 28 turnovers on the game (16 for Drexel, 12 for La Salle). 13 of Drexel's 16 turnovers came from their guards, including 4 from Tavon Allen and 6 from starting point guard Rashaan London. Allen and London finished with 14 and 10 points respectively, but as Coach Bruiser Flint expressed in the postgame press conference, turnovers plagued the Dragons today.
For the Explorers, Wright was in foul trouble early and sat for much of the first half, while Steve Zack eventually fouled out in the second half. The Explorers were aggressive on defense, but need to play smarter on defense so they can keep Wright and Zack in the game for longer durations. Both finished with just 4 points each and weren't able to contribute much on offense.
Cleon Roberts was able to step up today for the Explorers, going for 15 points on 6-14 shooting and getting 2 steals as well. When Wright, Zack, and Price struggle, it's good to see that La Salle can rely on other players like Roberts to help them ensure a victory.
The Dragons also had a few men in foul trouble in the game. Mohammed Bah had four fouls and was only able to record 22 minutes due to foul trouble early on. Rashaan London also had 4 fouls himself, while Damion Lee and Tavon Allen had 3 fouls each.
Damion Lee led the Dragons with 19 points on 6-14 shooting and also grabbed 9 rebounds. Lee was a big part of Drexel's early second half comeback, but the Dragons were unable to complete the comeback due to their turnover problem. Being able to handle the ball and make basketball plays will help Drexel out immensely in the long run.
