With a victory over Morgan State on Friday night, La Salle earned a berth in the semifinals of the Paradise Jam. Waiting for the Explorers were the undefeated Providence Friars. In a tight contest, La Salle fell short, losing 71-63 in the end.
The Explorers opened the contest by scoring the first 10 points of the game. The Friars would battle back however, tying the game at 19 with just over eight minutes remaining in the first half. After taking a 24-22 lead, Providence would not surrender the lead for the rest of the game, going to the locker rooms up 30-26.
Providence would not relinquish their lead for the entire second half, leading by 13 with under nine minutes remaining. The Explorers would rally, closing to within one at 59-58. La Salle would get no closer, as the Friars finished strong to earn a berth in the finals of the Paradise Jam against Maryland.
The Friars were led to victory by their big men, as forward Tyler Harris racked up 22 points and 9 rebounds and center Kadeem Batts added 18 points.
La Salle received 16 points apiece from both Tyreek Duren and Jerrell Wright. Duren led the Explorers' second half charge, scoring 14 of his 16 points in the second half and pulling La Salle to within one on a pair of free throws. Tyrone Garland kicked in 14 points and Steve Zack added 11 points and 11 rebounds, but La Salle fell short.
