In a battle between former MAAC rivals La Salle and Saint Peter's, it was the Explorers who came away victorious by a final score of 59-50. The Explorers improve to 3-0 with the win, and 2-0 at the Tom Gola Arena. Jordan Price led the way with 21 points on 5-17 shooting.
Jerrell Wright, who was suffering from back spasms earlier in the week against Quinnipiac, did no start, but was able to contribute quite a bit for the Explorers. Wright finished with a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Steve Zack finished with 3 point and 7 rebounds. Wright and Zack struggled from the field, going a combined 3-18 , but this is more of an outlier as far as these guys are concerned.
Freshman Cleon Roberts led the team with 35 minutes played, but fouled out with a couple minutes left to play. Roberts had 8 points and 8 rebounds on the day before fouling out. Another freshman, Amar Stukes, led the bench in scoring with 11 points.
The Explorers have an impressive freshmen class, which has shown to be pretty comfortable playing early on. The 2014-2015 freshman class (Stukes, Roberts, Shuler, Washington) is averaging 21 ppg so far this season.
Khalid Lewis only had 2 points and 2 assists today, but he has been great controlling the ball, with just 3 turnovers in total over the first 3 games. D.J. Peterson had 3 points himself, but was terrific on defense with 3 steals as well. The Explorers have sometimes struggled to get something going on the offensive end, but their defensive effort has been their bread and butter so far.
