The Penn Quakers have not played a basketball game in 15 days, since their December 7 loss to Wagner. Those 15 days off did not help the Quakers at all as they were easily dispatched by the Marist Red Foxes on the road today 76-62.
Though Penn fought back in the second half, it was not enough to overcome the fact that Marist nearly had them doubled up going into halftime, 47-24. A 32-11 run to end the first half spearheaded their effort. This was Marist's third straight win after starting off 0-9. Penn now drops to 2-7.
Marist's leading scorer was Khalid Hart, who shot 8-11 with 21 points. Chavaughn Lewis and Adam Kemp pitched in with 14 and 12 respectively.
Penn big man, Miles Jackson-Cartwright, did not make the trip after suffering a concussion this week in practice. His absence was clearly felt as Penn was outrebounded by Marist 45-32.
Though all 12 players registered at least a point for the Quakers today, nobody cracked double-digits. Tony Hicks and Fran Dougherty each had 9.
Penn now is off for the next week before taking on Rider Saturday 12/29 at noon.
