Junior Anthony Lee took over late in the game for Temple and helped them pick up the well-fought victory over Saint Joe's tonight. He scored 7 of the last 8 points for Temple to help them win 77-69. This was helped in part by a few defensive lapses by SJU down the stretch, allowing an easy bucket in the paint that was quickly followed by letting Lee rebound his own missed free throw despite being outmanned 3-1.
Will Cummings and Dalton Pepper also added 16 points apiece for the Owls. Even in the loss though, the star of this game was Langston Galloway, who had 24 points for the Hawks including their only three pointers, 6 of them.
This game was very entertaining, no team led by more than 5 until the very end, and even that 5 point lead that Temple took to the half was earned in about 20 seconds of gameplay.
Ultimately Saint Joe's lost, which is not surprising at all if you follow Hawks basketball. With such a group of talent, and believe me, the players SJU has welcomed to their system the past few years are undeniably talented, it is a shame that fans almost expect to lose games like this. It's high time for a culture change in the coaching staff and everyone knows it at SJU except the athletic department. This is what you hear after literally every game though. I'm not going to turn this into a whole rant though as it seems my fellow Hawks are already doing that over Twitter. I'll be on hand to watch the Holy War on Saturday, but sadly I'm already expecting the impending heartbreak. This leads me into a few notes from the game.
Temple had some very amusing rollouts, even I'll admit that, but with rollouts referencing things like Halil's middle finger incident & Ronald Roberts on a skateboard I have to wonder if they seriously have a team of students tasked with watching every Saint Joe's game to find usable scenarios for rollouts. This has to be the case right? If someone from Temple can produce for us this group of moles the Broad Street Beat will gladly write a feature piece on them.
SJU and Temple now sit at both 4-3 with the Hawks taking on a fierce #14 ranked Villanova squad Saturday, which if they manage to win I'll take back most of what I said until the next time Saint Joe's loses.
Temple takes on Texas on Saturday, followed by Texas Southern, which helps inch them closer to their ultimate goal of having their out-of-conference schedule read like this next season: Texas, Texas Southern, Texas Tech, Texas A & M, Texas State, UTEP, UTSA, Rice, Houston, UT-Arlington, Texas A & M-Chorpus Christi.
