Ronald Roberts Jr. scored 22 points and added a few plays to his highlight reel, while Chris Wilson pitched in a career-high 20 points, as Saint Joseph's handed Dayton their first loss in the month of February, 79-53.
Starting the game on an 8-0 run, the Hawks quickly built their lead as Dayton missed their first eight shots from the field. Behind strong play from Ronald Roberts Jr. and Chris Wilson, Saint Joseph's jumped to a 23-11 lead, as the forward and guard quickly tallied 9 points apiece.
The Hawks would begin to break things open as the half wore on, taking a 39-20 lead to the locker room, as they shot 62.5 percent in the half, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc.
Roberts and Wilson got the Hawks off to a fast start offensively, finishing the half with 11 points apiece, as they combined to go 10-of-12 shooting in the half.
Dayton struggled in the half, shooting just 26.7 percent, while being outscored 20-10 in the paint. The Flyers also turned the ball over 7 times in the half, as Saint Joseph's converted those errors into 9 points.
Saint Joseph's continued their domination in the second half, breaking the game wide open behind the play of Wilson and Roberts.
Wilson drained yet another three-pointer to put the Hawks up 60-35 with 12:14 left, as he improved to 8-of-8 from the field on the night, setting a new career-high for points at 20. Saint Joseph's would be far from done however, as Roberts posterized multiple Dayton players and the Hawks opened a lead as big as 30, before winning 79-53.
"We thought there was a way to attack them defensively. We did not do a very good job at Dayton, but here we made extra passes," said Saint Joseph's coach Phil Martelli. "We had 19 assists, I think in the first half we had 11 assists on 15 field goals."
Ronald Roberts led the Hawks with 22 points, 7 rebounds and two monster dunks, while Chris Wilson notched a new career high for points with 20 on a perfect 8-of-8 shooting from the field.
"Really it's a testament to my teammates. We have so many weapons on our team, you can't focus on one guy," Wilson said. "They were trying to take away Lang tonight after what he did last game and Ron and Halil in the post, so it was an opportunity for me tonight."
Devin Oliver led the Flyers with 10 points and 11 rebounds, but the double-double would be far from enough, as Dayton shot just 31.7 percent in the 26-point loss, their largest of the season.
With the win, Saint Joseph's improved to 20-7 on the season and 10-3 in A-10 play. The Hawks will now be on the road for two straight, beginning with a matchup against St. Bonaventure on Saturday.
"I don't measure a win against another win. We did what we had to do tonight. We played well for 40 minutes," Martelli said. "Thursday when we come in we have a lot of work to do to prepare for St. Bonaventure on the road."
