The Saint Joseph's Hawks rang in the New Year a bit early, as they welcomed Binghamton to Hagan Arena for today's matinée. It was all Hawks from the get-go, as Saint Joseph's jumped to a big lead early, cruising to a 71-44 victory.

Langston Galloway knocked down a 3-pointer to open the game, as the Hawks jumped out to a quick 19-6 lead. Chris Wilson got off to yet another fast start, going 3 for 3 from beyond the arc early, as he scored 9 of Saint Joseph's first 19 points.
The Hawks continued to dominate the Bearcats throughout the first half, leading by as much as 25 with 3:41 remaining. Saint Joseph's would head to the locker room with a comfortable 39-15 lead, as they shot 52.9 percent from the field, while holding Binghamton to just 18.5 percent.
"This was the third time [we were up big], we were up big on Vermont and they came back, then Loyola we let them come back. So we're just trying to keep the separation," said Galloway.
The Hawks would do just that in the second half, as they continued to control the pace of the game. Galloway continued to hit his shots from beyond the arc, making 6 of 9 from deep in the game, falling one shy of tying his career high.
"They were playing zone and most the time when a team is playing zone we all try to get going early and then try to knock down shots to open up the inside for the bigs," Galloway said.
As Saint Joseph's continued to stretch their lead, DeAndre' Bembry threw down a thunderous dunk midway through the half, putting the Hawks' up 35. Bembry played with high energy throughout, just one game after finding himself on the bench for his defensive efforts. While the freshman had just 2 points, he racked up 8 assists and 6 rebounds, while also playing staunch defense that included a come from behind block.
The Bearcats were simply no match for the Hawks, as the Saint Joseph's bench saw ample time in the second half on the way to a 71-44 Hawks win.
“The players and all the coaches deserve a tremendous amount of credit," said Coach Phil Martelli. "We had a quick turnaround and we talked to the players that you really experience this in the postseason. It’s different. It’s a mental and physical preparation. They were zeroed in as soon as they got here."
Galloway led all scorers with 20 points, while he also grabbed 7 rebounds in the contest. Wilson reached double-digits for the fourth straight game, as he notched 13 points.
"After we came back from Florida, I hit a two or three game stretch where I was just struggling with my shooting," Wilson said. "I just try to block the misses out in my mind. Then a few games ago it finally dropped and I finally got back to feeling like myself."
Perhaps the best sign for the Hawks in the win, Isaiah Miles scored 11 points off the bench, while collecting 6 rebounds as well. A team that has often been plagued by their lack of depth, Saint Joseph's will need performances like that from their reserves in big games.
With their fourth straight win, the Hawks improved to 8-4 on the season. They will next welcome Denver to Hagan Arena on Saturday, January 4.
