
Saint Joseph’s trekked to Burlington, Vermont to face the Vermont Catamounts in their 2013-14 season opener. Coming off a letdown in their 2012-13 campaign, the Hawks enter the season with a veteran core and looking to make some noise in the A-10. The Hawks got off to a good start, topping the Catamounts 74-64.
Saint Joseph’s was in control early, as they jumped out to a solid lead against Vermont. Building their lead throughout the first 20 minutes, the Hawks entered the half up 43-26.
The second half didn’t go nearly as smooth for the Hawks however, as the Catamounts closed to within three with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game. The Hawks would pull away again however, as they won by a final score of 74-64.
Seniors Langston Galloway and Ronald Roberts, Jr., led the way for the Hawks, scoring 21 points apiece. Roberts pulled down 9 rebounds as well in the contest, as the big man from Bayonne, NJ looks to continue his steady improvement through his years on Hawk Hill.
Highly touted freshman DeAndre Bembry made his debut for the Hawks, scoring 11 points and grabbing 6 rebounds for solid showing in his first collegiate game.
The Hawks will have their home opener on Wednesday, as they welcome the Marist Red Foxes to Hagan Arena.
