Temple would jump out to a lead as large as eight in the first half, but would be unable to distance themselves from the Huskies, as both teams struggled to make shots.
Connecticut would continue to remain within striking distance in the second half, eventually tying the game at 51-51 on a dunk by Rodney Purvis with 11 seconds remaining in regulation.
Both teams would continue to struggle with their shots in overtime, as Temple found themselves with a 55-53 lead midway through the extra period.
Trailing by two, Connecticut would get a golden opportunity with two seconds remaining, as Quenton DeCosey was whistled for a foul on a three-point attempt by Daniel Hamilton.
Hamilton would miss the first two of his free throws, however, forcing him to intentionally miss the third in an effort to give the Huskies one last shot.
Will Cummings would prevent that from happening, grabbing the ball off the miss and making both free throws after being fouled to put the game away and give Temple a 57-53 win.
Jesse Morgan would lead the Owls in the victory, scoring 17 points, but Temple would shoot just 31.6 percent from the field in the game.
While the Owls did manage to pull off a road victory over the defending national champions, they did it against a Huskies squad that played more than half the game without their best player.
Ryan Boatright, Connecticut's leading scorer on the season (19.2 PPG), would leave the game early in the second half after suffering a deep bruise to his left thigh, leaving many to wonder if he would've been the difference maker in such a tightly contested game.
