In a tournament dedicated to the legends of the game, it was only fitting that we would see another legendary play unfold right before our eyes. Wildcat senior JayVaughn Pinkston saw an easy look for Zak Irvin under the basket with 13 seconds left, he darted towards Irvin and stuffed his shot attempt. This coming right after Pinkston hit what would go on to be the game winning shot on the other end. Villanova led 56-55 right before the block, and Arcidiacono sealed the victory with 4 clutch free throws.
Pinkston finished with 8 points and 9 rebounds to go along with his 1 block in his 28 minutes of playing time. Arcidiacono had a solid all-around game as well, scoring 9 points, and also recording 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals.
Dylan Ennis led the Wildcats in scoring with 15 points on the night, and was named the Legends Classic MVP. Ennis also had 3 rebounds and 2 steals on the night.
For The Wolverines, Caris LeVert led the team in scoring with 16 points, and also had 6 rebounds and 3 steals. LeVert and Spike Albrecht are the lone holdovers from the 2013 Michigan team that lost to Louisville in the National Championship game. Albrecht had a tough night, scoring 3 points on 1-4 shooting in his 27 minutes of playing time.
The win brings the Wildcats to 5-0 on the season. Beating Michigan and VCU will be huge come tournament time in March, where every win over a top 25 team will only help them secure a higher seed. According to espn.com, the only other games against currently ranked team that Villanova has scheduled are the home and homes against Creighton in Big East play, but that can all change at any time. Syracuse, Georgetown, Xavier, Marquette and even Butler (gasp!) remain on the schedule and can become a top 25 team at any moment.
