In their last ever games at the Pavilion, Hilliard and Pinkston had huge games to help the Wildcats emerge victorious against the Friars by a final score of 89-61. Hilliard led all scorers with 24 points, while Pinkston was able to add 16 points of his own. Tyler Harris led Providence in scoring with 18 points.
Villanova dominated the Friars from three point territory; the Wildcats went 13-25, including 6 three pointers from Hilliard alone, while Providence went just 3-10 from downtown. Josh Hart and Ryan Arcidiacono each added 3 three pointers, and Kris Jenkins was able to knock one down as well.
The Wildcats also dominated from the free throw line, going 26-31 from the charity stripe. The Friars went just 6-12 on free throws in the game. Providence made more field goals than Villanova (26-25), but Villanova's dominance from the three-point and free throw lines was the difference in the game.
It was a huge win for the Wildcats. Providence was no slouch, ranking 25th in the country coming into the game. Villanova came out and made a statement on the defensive end, holding a ranked team to just 61 points on the night. The Wildcats never allowed the Friars to get into a rhythm on offense. The victory brings Villanova to 26-2 overall and 13-2 in the Big East, while Providence drops to 19-9 overall and 9-6 in the Big East.
