The Eagles traveled to storied Lambeau Field this afternoon with an opportunity to get back to .500 on the season. Nick Foles let the ball soar for a few deep touchdowns and the Eagles beat the depleted Packers by a score of 27-13.
Coming off a record setting performance last week, Foles entered the game looking to continue his recent success. It wouldn’t take long for the Eagles to find the end zone, as Foles let it fly to connect with DeSean Jackson for a 55-yard touchdown.
The Packers would miss two field goals in the first half, while the Eagles missed one, but both teams did put the ball through the uprights once in the half to set the score at 10-3 Eagles after 30 minutes of play.
Philadelphia’s offense sputtered a bit in the second quarter, but emerged from the locker room after the half ready to go. Foles would connect with Riley Cooper for a 45-yard touchdown just moments into the third quarter to put the Eagles up 17-3 and an Alex Henery field goal four minutes later would push the Philadelphia lead to 17.
With just over three minutes remaining in the third quarter, the Packers finally found the end zone, with Scott Tolzien connecting with Brandon Bostick for a 22-yard score. The Eagles would quickly respond, as Foles hit Cooper for a 32-yard touchdown as the quarter was winding down to put Philadelphia up 27-10. A field goal in the fourth would be the only further damage the depleted Packers squad could do, as the Eagles soared to a 27-13 victory.
Foles continued his solid play, completing 12 of 18 passes for 228 yards and 3 touchdowns. Foles has yet to throw an interception on the season and continues to look like the solution for the Eagles under center.
While the Eagles appear to have finally found some clarity with their signal-caller, the Packers quarterback situation just got a bit blurrier. With Aaron Rodgers out today, Seneca Wallace was calling the snaps to start. Wallace wouldn’t last long, suffering a groin injury, leaving the Packers to turn to third-stringer Scott Tolzien.
The Eagles offensive attack was nicely balanced by the performance of LeSean McCoy, after the talented running back had struggled in recent weeks. McCoy finished the day with 155 yards rushing on 25 carries.
The play of the defense continued its steady improvement this week, as the Eagles only allowed 13 points, their sixth consecutive week holding their opponent to 21 points or less. The Eagles intercepted the Packers twice in the game, with DeMeco Ryans and Brandon Boykin each recording a pick.
Although the Packers were thoroughly banged up, a win at Lambeau is still no easy task. The Eagles now sit at 5-5 on the season and a loss by Dallas tonight would move them into a tie for first in the NFC East. It’s a wide open division and if the Eagles continue to play like this, they could very well find themselves in the playoffs.
The Eagles will face Washington at home next Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
