We all thought this game would be a shootout. With first place in the NFC East on the line, the Cowboys visited the Eagles in what was sure to be a high-scoring affair. Seriously, I don’t think a single bet was placed on the under for this game, but apparently should’ve been, as Dallas won 17-3.
In an odd turn of events, the game turned into a defensive battle (or maybe both offenses were just that bad). With DeMarcus Ware out for Dallas, it set the stage for an even higher scoring game, but the depleted Dallas defense shut down the birds in embarrassing fashion.
Dallas took a 3-0 lead into the locker room at the half and made it 10-0 shortly into the third quarter. The Eagles finally got on the board three seconds into the fourth quarter on an Alex Henery 31-yard field goal, but Dallas would continue to shut down an Eagles offense that entered the contest as one of the most prolific offenses in the league.
Dallas added a touchdown on a Tony Romo 9-yard pass to Terrance Williams and just like that the Eagles were done, falling 17-3.
Quarterback Nick Foles was knocked out of the contest on the final play of the third quarter, giving Eagles fans their first look at rookie Matt Barkley. Barkley was thoroughly terrible, going 11 for 20 passing with three interceptions. Yes, he actually threw three interceptions in just one quarter of play, and technically did throw four picks, but the one that came on just his second pass of the game was brought back due to penalty against Dallas.
The Eagles now fall to 3-4 on the season and an embarrassing 0-3 at home. With pretty much no options at quarterback unless Foles or Vick gets healthy, I’ll be stretching out my pathetic excuse for an arm in anticipation of getting the call for next week’s game against the Giants.
