The Eagles have announced the signing of center Jason Kelce to a seven-year contract and wide receiver Riley Cooper to a five-year contract.
Kelce, a sixth-round draft pick in 2011, started all 16 games in his rookie season before missing much of the 2012 season following a knee injury. The center returned to form this past season however, starting every game for an Eagles squad that set a franchise record for points scored with 442 and boasted the league’s top rusher, LeSean McCoy, who ran for 1,607 yards on the season.
"Jason is the epitome of the type of player we want around here, both on and off the field. He's tough, extremely intelligent and is a leader by his actions and by his words,” said head coach Chip Kelly. “His athleticism is something that really sticks out when you watch him play. There aren't many centers that can get down the field like he does."
Cooper had a breakout season in 2013 following a tumultuous offseason. With fellow receiver Jeremy Maclin out for the season, the 6’3” Cooper flourished, catching 47 passes for 835 yards and 8 touchdowns.
"Riley's a tough player who can not only go up and catch the football and make big plays, but who also takes a great amount of pride in his ability to block and be physical down the field,” said GM Howie Roseman. “He made the most of his opportunities last year and we all expect him to build upon that.”
