The Eagles topped the Panthers in the second game of preseason action by a score of 14 to 9. The defense looked vastly improved since the beating they took from the Patriots last week, but that should be taken with a grain of salt, it was the Panthers after all.
Nick Foles got the start at quarterback this time and put the Eagles on the board in the first quarter on a 7-yard rushing touchdown. The touchdown followed LeSean McCoy breaking multiple Panthers defenders ankles on a beautiful 21-yard rush.
The Panthers closed within one in the second quarter courtesy of two field goals before McCoy increased the Eagles lead with a 1-yard rushing touchdown.
The Panthers would hit another field goal in the second half when the important players were out of the game and the Eagles would hold on for the win.
The real point of interest for the game was the Eagles quarterback competition which continued to heat up. Foles got to start this week and was good, going 6 for 8 passing for 53 yards, but did throw one pick as he attempted to throw the ball out of the endzone. Foles scored one of the Eagles two touchdowns on a 7-yard run, as he had two runs for a total of 13 yards in the game.
The second quarter was Mike Vick's and he looked good as well, going 9 for 10 passing for 105 yards, and adding 20 yards on the ground on two running attempts. Vick tossed one interception as well, but his came on a Hail Mary pass at the end of the first half.
So, while the Eagles did win the game, more importantly the defense looked vastly improved and both quarterbacks looked solid, sorry Matt Barkley I don't consider you to be in this race, no one does. So after two games, does either quarterback have a leg up in the competition in your opinion?
