Every team in football has it's rivalry matchups, but it seems like the rivalry games that the Eagles have are just a thousand times better than those other, less important teams. Those four Cowboys and Giants games a year are always great, especially when the Birds fly off with a win. Yeah, the Redskins are a rival too, but they're never as worthy an opponent as the Cowboys and Giants. It's always personal and always filled with trash talk
For tonight's game, there's trash talk galore. Even Eagles fan Bradley Cooper, who has finally recovered from his three hangovers just in time to help us take a collective dump in Eli's mouth, has joined in on the fun this week. These two teams have always hated each other. If each team had to go 1-15 this year, they would want their one win to come tonight.
Obviously, in a rivalry game like this, all prior offensive and defensive rankings go out the window. These two teams know each other so well, so each point will have to be earned. The Giants defense is going to try and take advantage of the injury riddled line to put pressure on Foles early and to contain Shady and Sproles before they get to the second level of the defense. Whomever is matched up with JPP will need to have a great game tonight and allow the offense to get going.
For the Eagles defense, they will need to do the same and put pressure on the Giants' line and get to Eli early and often. Battles like tonight are won in the trenches. Whichever team wants it more and comes out more aggressive will come away victorious tonight, simple as that.
As long as the Giants don't sign Matt Dodge this afternoon, it will be tougher for special teams to get things going. I expect a lower scoring game than usual for these teams. I think that Peters and the line are amped enough to come out early and push the Giants' defensive line around and let the running game establish themselves. This will open up the passing game later on and will allow the Eagles to capitalize big in the third or fourth quarter.
The time for trash talk is almost time. Once the clock begins counting down from the 15 minute mark in the first quarter, the play will do the talking. We know the Eagles and Giants have put in the extra work this week to back up everything being said. It;s all about who wants it more.
