The Eagles visited Oakland this afternoon coming off two straight losses and with a bit of desperation in the air. After scoring just 10 points in their last two games, the Eagles offense erupted for 49 points in a record day by quarterback Nick Foles.
Foles hit Brent Celek for a 2-yard touchdown 10 minutes into the game and the Eagles had taken the lead, one they would not relinquish all game. After the first quarter ended with Philadelphia leading 7-3, the Eagles broke out in the second quarter, behind three more touchdowns from Foles.
Foles hit Riley Cooper for a 17-yard touchdown to start the second quarter and a 63-yard touchdown just moments later. Foles would find Zach Ertz for his fourth passing touchdown of the day before the half, as the Birds went to the locker room at the Coliseum up 28-13.
Foles wouldn’t slow down after the break, throwing for three more touchdowns in the third quarter, one each to LeSean McCoy, DeSean Jackson and Riley Cooper. It would round out a historic day for Foles, as he tied the record for most passing touchdowns in a single game with seven before being lifted in the fourth quarter.
It was a complete 180 for Foles, who was horrendous against Dallas two weeks ago before exiting with an injury. In his return to the lineup, Foles went 22 for 28 for 406 yards passing and a 158.3 rating. Yes, Foles had more touchdowns than incompletions on the day, ridiculous.
Foles did a nice job spreading the ball around all afternoon, hitting Jackson for 150 yards and Cooper for 139 yards and three touchdowns.
Not to be forgotten in the historic offensive outburst was the continued solid play by the defense in the past month. The Eagles defense held Oakland to just 20 points, their fifth consecutive game allowing 21 points or less.
The win moves the Eagles to 4-5 on the season, with all four wins coming on the road. If the Birds can find some success at home to end the season, they could manage to win a weak division.
The Eagles will next head to Green Bay to face off against the Packers. It will be a true test to see just how far the defense has come since that week 4 pounding at the hands of the Broncos, as Philadelphia attempts to get back to .500 on the season.
