The New England Patriots came out victorious over the Birds last night by a score of 31-22. While I don’t want to jump to too many conclusions after a preseason game, there are a few points that I liked and disliked throughout the game.
Mike Vick, am I right? He looked quite sharp in his debut, throwing 4-5 for 94 yards and an exciting touchdown to DeSean Jackson. He looked pretty comfortable in the new offense and was getting the ball off to his receivers without much hesitation. Vick, in his post-game press conference, claimed that they didn’t even do a third of what the Eagles would normally do in a game. While I’m not one to believe that Vick necessarily knows what “a third” of anything is, I’m pretty excited that Chip isn’t tipping his hand until the regular season.
On the other hand, the defense didn’t play so hot. Tom Brady, sporting the new short hair style that Gisele probably forced him to get, led the Pats on a pair of long TD drives in his only two series. He seemed to pick apart the defense with relative ease which doesn’t bode well for the upcoming season. I don’t want to worry too much about one measly preseason game but still, that’s gonna have to change if we are gunning for a spot atop the NFC East totem pole this year.
All in all, I think we can all agree that it could be worse. We could have Tim Tebow as our quarterback! In a result that should shock no one, he generally sucked in his debut. Hopefully we don’t have to hear about him 25 hours a day on SportsCenter this week.
