Not good. Early in the second period of Saturday night's contest between the Flyers and New York Rangers, play had to be stopped after Flyers forward Michael Raffl collapsed on the bench (video below). Raffl would need assistance getting to the locker room after the play stoppage.

Raffl had collided with Rangers forward Jarret Stoll shortly before, taking an elbow to the face.

Flyers Fall Late In Season Opener

10/8/2014

Just as it looked like the season opener was heading to overtime and the Flyers would get at least 1 point, Chris Kelly wiped the tension out of the air with a goal coming with only 1:51 left in the game. This put the Atlantic Division favorite Boston Bruins up 2-1 and gave them the win. The Flyers fought hard, led by Steve Mason as per usual, but it wasn't enough to start the season 1-0-0.

Kimmo Timonen has been diagnosed with blood clots in both lungs and in his right leg. The 39-year-old Flyers' defenseman  is currently undergoing treatment in his native Finland, according to Flyers GM Ron Hextall.

Timonen re-signed with the Flyers following a season in which he averaged more than 20 minutes of ice time per game and figured to be a key cog in the Flyer's defense yet again.

Buttgate 2014 Update: Image of Giroux Being Arrested Surfaces

7/2/2014

In this latest image of Claude Giroux making its rounds around the internet we see him chatting up some girls while being arrested for grabbing a police officer's ass. The Flyers captain remains stoic, still smiling, still wearing what appears to be a Phillies hat. Have to imagine that one of the girls, or possibly his friends put him up to the stunt. It's not everyday that your team captain gets arrested for grabbing police butts, but it looks like Giroux played this one off well, much like we as Philly fans will need to do when Penguins/Rangers/Devils fans try to bring this up mockingly this season. Somewhere out there, Jeff Carter is quietly chuckling.

Note that it's also daylight and yesterday was Canada's version of our 4th of July, so what famous Philly athlete could we see in a picture like this from the shore this Friday?

Flyers Season Ends In Game 7

4/30/2014

Nobody wanted it to end this way, but tonight the Flyers usual third period magic just wasn't there. They were done in by poor play (except from Steve Mason) in the first two periods and couldn't quite recover. The Rangers took the game by a score of 2-1 tonight and will move on to play the Pittsburgh Penguins in the next round, while the Flyers prepare for the offseason.

Simmonds' Hat Trick Propels Flyers to Game 7

4/29/2014

Where has this version of the Flyers been all this series? After struggling to mount any offense, even in the victories, the Flyers (mostly Wayne Simmonds) reawakened tonight with 5 goals. Thanks to the 5-2 victory we now have a game 7 situation on our hands tomorrow night in New York. If the Flyers can channel the energy they had the last 70% of tonight's game and use it tomorrow they can definitely advance to play Pittsburgh next round...and you thought the embellishment calls were over.

Flyers Drop Game 5 to Rangers 4-2

4/27/2014

This game was a struggle to watch. The Flyers didn't necessarily play a bad game today, it just looked like New York was a better team out there. The Flyers scored 1 goal on the power play, but failed to do anything on the other 4, not even registering a shot on the first one. They were simply outmatched and the Rangers were taking advantages of their opportunities where the Flyers failed to. The series now heads back to Philadelphia for a Tuesday night game 6. The Flyers have their backs against the wall, but this is often where they shine, so anything could happen.

Flyers Beat Rangers 2-1 Behind Stellar Effort From Mason

4/25/2014

They said it couldn't be done, but I worked the title of an Incubus song into the title of an article. Now let's Drive into the recap. The Flyers tied the series with the Rangers 2-2 tonight thanks to goalie Steve Mason more so than anyone. Mason denied 37 shots out of 38 tonight to anchor the Flyers as they fought for a hard-earned 2-1 victory.
