Flyers Come Out Flat, Lose to Hurricanes 3-2

The Flyers looked slow and the effort was definitely lacking in the first period tonight. Perhaps the snow delay threw them off their game a bit. This is the first of 8 games in a row against teams with winning records, so a win against Carolina, not exactly the cream of that crop, would have been good to have in hand. This loss keeps the Flyers in third place in the division. There is only 8 points of separation between the #2 and #8 teams currently.
The first period may have been the point at which the Flyers lost this game tonight. It took them incredibly long to even get a shot on the net and by the end of the first they had only registered 3 shots on goal. The Hurricanes, not exactly and offensive juggernaut, were only able to put up 1 on the Flyers in the first. Alexander Semin was responsible for that goal 12 minutes in.

The second goal for the Hurricanes came off a mistake by Luke Schenn, who couldn't control a pass at the blue line. Nathan Gerbe stole it away and scored a fancy between-the-legs goal on Mason. You couldn't even really be angry about the goal because it was pretty darn impressive to watch. I'm going to post that at the bottom of this article so give it a look.

Giroux gave the Flyers a spark in the waning minutes of the second off a backhand goal that ricocheted off Carolina goalie Anton Khudobin (Qdoba?) and into the net.

It's been nice this season knowing that even when the Flyers are down going into the third there's a very good chance they'll come back. They almost did tonight as Scott Hartnell put home a rebound off Qdoba on the power play.

This wasn't the goal that opened the flood gates though, as the Hurricanes put that goal right back on the board. Awkwardly-named Jiri Tlusty scored with 6:10 left off a convenient rebound.

Tonight's game was the first ever game the Flyers had to completely postpone due to weather, which really sucked. Let's be honest, how great would it have been to have some Flyers hockey to watch last night when there was absolutely nowhere to go and nothing to do?

The rescheduling puts the Flyers in a back-to-back situation. They'll head to Columbus to take onBobrovsky and the gang tomorrow night at 7.
