This is the earliest the Flyers have started a home game that I can ever remember. It's almost like they were trying to make us miss the opening face-off. Close but no cigar. I stumbled out of bed at roughly 11:14 in time to see the Flyers jump on the Jets early and gain a win.
Scott Hartnell's goal in the first minute and Sean Couturier's shorthander 5 minutes into the 2nd proved to be all the offense the Flyers needed. After the unsuccessful Florida road trip, where the Flyers dropped 2, it was good to see them right the ship today.
Coots' goal in the 2nd was a thing of beauty, as he caused a turnover and took the puck down ice on a breakaway, sneaking it through Pavelec's legs.
Mason saved 25 of 26 shots today, the only Winnipeg goal being earned by Michael Frolik in the third period.
Both teams went a combined 0 for 10 on the power-play.
The Flyers now begin a six game road trip tomorrow night in Nashville.
