If you were playing the Bobby Ryan drinking game, in which you drink every time Coatsey and the gang mention Bobby Ryan's hometown, you probably aren't awake to read this now. We'll see you in the morning. For the rest of you though, you're probably aware that the Flyers lost 5-4 in OT tonight.
The Senators had to have been among the Flyers' favorite teams to play this season. The last 2 games they have defeated them by a combined 10-2. That wasn't the case tonight though.
Punches were being traded all night. The Flyers got on the board first thanks to Michael Raffl's first NHL goal. He hit the net at exactly the right angle after a Simmonds deflection. Clarke MacArthur struck back 2 minutes later for the Senators making it 1-1 at the first break.
Ottawa took the lead in the 2nd on a power play goal by Patrick Wiercioch, but the Flyers soon struck back when Voracek rebounded his own shot for his 4th goal of the season. Less than 2 minutes later Luke Schenn helped the orange and black take the lead on a slapshot that looked like it may have banked off Simmonds. Simmonds was everywhere tonight and definitely caused troubles for Ottawa's defense despite not scoring.
Clarke MacArthur scored again, followed by Kyle Turris in the third. This gave Ottawa the lead, but the Flyers battled back. Kimmo Timonen tied it at 4-4 with 9 minutes left in the game on wrister from about the blue line.
The teams headed to a shootout after a scoreless OT period. Now the Flyers aren't traditionally good at shootouts, and not having Lecavalier exemplifies that, but Ottawa was 0-4 this season in shootouts so it was anyone's game. Unfortunately the only player to put one home was Jason Spezza. Couturier had the chance to tie, but hit the post on the last shot of the SO.
The Flyers were able to get 1 point. Even if they had gotten 2 they would still be in 6th in the division as I write this. The season series against the Senators is over now and the Flyers won that 2-0-1. So yeah, take that Ottawa.
The Flyers are back at it Wednesday at 8 against the Chicago Blackhawks before returning home Thursday against Montreal.
