This abomination of a game was just because the Flyers are saving their momentum for tomorrow night against a much more hated Pittsburgh Penguins team...right? Right? Somebody tell me that's what this was! Intentions aside, the Blackhawks roughed the Flyers up tonight to the tune of a 4-0 blowout. Patrick Kane had 2 power play goals and Mason gave up four goals for the third time this season.
It only took 2:06 of game time in middle of the first period for the Blackhawks to tarnish any hopes the Flyers had of winning. Chicago's "B-name heavy" third line of Brandon Saad, Brad Richards & Bryan Bickell roughed them up tonight. Saad has the first goal of the game 12 minutes in and Bickell had one 2 minutes later. These sandwiched a power play goal by Patrick Kane who caught a good bounce off the backboard after Patrick Sharp's shot missed.
Patrick Kane added his second goal of the game in the third period after finding the puck during a tie-up in the net, an event that saw Luke Schenn just kind of fall down without being touched in front of Kane. #LukeDown
Despite giving up 4 goals, Steve Mason's save percentage was a little better tonight because he still turned away 39 shots. The Flyers D can't be giving up 43 shots per game though. Is it just me or does this defensive core just not hit opposing players? I'm not saying they should be over-aggressive and take stupid penalties, we have a Rinaldo for that, but man, a little passion would be nice.
No excuses, but playing Chicago really is like playing an unfairly stacked fantasy hockey team. And on the bright side, the Flyers lack of hustle tonight should ensure that they have fresh legs for tomorrow's turnaround in Pittsburgh.

@BroadStBeat, fully open about our lack of hustle.
