The Flyers rookies took on the Washington Capitals rookies today at the Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees. In a dominant performance the Flyers took the win 3-0 in a game that saw goals from Petr Straka, Nicolas Aube-Kubel and Kevin Goumas.
The first period saw no scoring, but it did see defensive prospect Sam Morin throw the gloves against Liam O'Brien. It was a good fight that 6'7" Morin eventually won when he threw O'Brien to the ice.
Petr Straka, playing RW on the top line today, opened the scoring in the second period on a breakaway after a Washington turnover at the blue line. One-on-one against the goalie he backhanded it home. Forty-five seconds later, second line RW Nicolas Aube-Kubel made it 2-0 after finishing a wraparound attempt that got slightly away from Taylor Leier.
Kevin Goumas notched an empty netter in the third period to make it 3-0. Below is the starting line-up that played today.

Most of these guys will be in Allentown this season as the Lehigh Valley Phantoms open their inaugural season. It's not typically the norm that your AHL team's defense is more exciting than your NHL team's defense, but that's definitely the case this year. Morin, Gostisbehere, Hagg and Sanheim are the big 4 carrying high hopes for bright futures in Philadelphia. Can't wait to get to some Phantoms games this year.
