The Flyers have really hit their stride as of late. They topped off their 5-1 road trip with their 10th straight home win, all of which came in regulation. This is the first time that's happened since 1984-85.
It never seemed like the Canadiens were in control of this game. The Flyers played at their own pace for all 60 minutes, an opportunity they were afforded after 2 first period goals. Sean Couturier scored in the first 7 minutes and Zac Rinaldo reminded us all of his existence with his first goal of the year in the 15th minute. Andrej Meszaros assisted both.
Meszaros had a 3 point night in fact, after assisting on the 3rd goal which came from Michael Raffl in the second period. Also in the second, Tomas Plekanic scored a short-handed goal for the Canadiens to cut the lead to 3-1. Steve Mason did not allow the Canadiens even the slightest chance at a rally though. Mason finished with 19 saves on 20 shots from Montreal.
The Flyers, now 9-2 in their last 11, are slowly but surely distancing themselves from the rest of the Metropolitan division. Hopefully they can carry this momentum through the upcoming winter break and into the playoffs. The Lightning roll into the Well Saturday night to take on the orange and black next.
