What's going on with Jake Voracek this season? Whatever it is, he doesn't resemble the wily Czech forward we've come to know and love. Through 10 games, the all-star winger only has 3 points off 3 assist and no goals. This is a far cry from last year when he started the first 10 games with 15 points. But we're firm believers here at the Beat that Jake is gonna be just fine.
If I had just signed an 8-year $66 million contract over the summer I might feel a little lazy too, I mean, I just got paid! (Sadly my 8-year salary outlook is nearly $66 million less than Voracek's) This isn't the case though.
Voracek is still contributing to the Flyers offense and is only struggling stat-wise. As far as the eye-test is concerned, it doesn't look like he's lost a step whatsoever. Jake has 44 shots on goal this year, which is 6th most in the league. Granted he's the only one that hasn't scored with that many shots, but they're going to start finding the back of the net sooner rather than later.
The first goal's the hardest and with this new contract there's a bit more pressure, but Giroux started off this way last year bear in mind. It took 15 games for G to light the lamp but after that he was back to his old self and went on to score the second most goals & points on the team.
Now I don't know if me saying all this will put you at ease, but whatever. Voracek will score tonight against Vancouver and reward those of you who stay awake to watch. And if not, that's why you don't listen to us!
