The Flyers were beginning to pick things up a bit, gaining points in their last 5 games (3 of them wins), but Steven Stamkos and the Tampa Bay Lightning put an end to that tonight. The Bolts defeated the Flyers 3-1 tonight, which marks their 6th straight win over Philly.
A rookie goalie owned the Flyers tonight, a goalie making his first NHL start to be exact. 20 year-old Andre Vasilevski saved 23 of the 24 shots the Flyers put up on him.
The Flyers were off to a decent start. Wayne Simmonds scored his 14th goal of the season on the power play in the final minute of the first period. The Flyers were 1-for-3 on the power play, while successfully killing all 4 of Tampa's.
Steven Stamkos tied things up quickly into the second, beating Mason up high while streaking to the net and making Mark Streit fall down. That was Stamkos' 18th goal of the year, tying him for second in the league with Rick Nash.
Later that period Tyler Johnson scored off a rebound to put the Lightning up 2-1. Valtteri 'Count' Filpulla added the empty netter to make the final 3-1.
Another game, another Flyers lack-luster performance. This team couldn't even challenge a rookie goalie in his first start. The frustration seems to be building in the locker room as well. Thursday's game is shaping up to be a must-win almost, to put some life back into this flat-lining team.
Speaking of Thursday, that game completes the home stand and is against the Florida Panthers. Puck drop is at 7:00.
