The Flyers hit a little bit of a speed bump this weekend after their hugely successful road trip. In a span of a day and a half, the orange and black dropped back-to-back games against the Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Rangers, the latter thanks to 3 first period goals.
The Rangers started off strong, putting 2 goals on the board in the first 3 minutes. The first was scored by former Flyer, Daniel Carcillo, and the second by Rick Nash. Derick Brassard beat Ray Emery with 10 minutes left in the period to make the score 3-0. To Emery and the rest of the team's credit though, they kept their composure and realed the Rangers offense back in for the rest of the game. Unfortunately the Flyers offense couldn't score enough to earn the W.
Chris Kreider scored his team-leading 12th goal of the year in the second period on a power play. In the third, Mark Streit helped the Flyers avoid the shut-out with a power play goal in the 7th minute. Vinny Lecavalier was credited with his 500th career assist on the play.
The high point of the night for anyone who continued watching this game after the first was probably Luke Schenn beating Daniel Carcillo quite handily in a meaningless fight. Had Carcillo gotten an assist tonight he would have got the Gordy Howe Hat Trick. (Fight, goal, assist)
The Flyers look to get back to their winning ways on the road Tuesday against the Buffalo Sabres. The Flyers are now 4th in the ever-changing Metropolitan Division and have 13 games remaining before the Olympic break.
