The Flyers continued their hot streak tonight against the defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings. After playing to a 2-2 draw, Brayden Schenn (laughing at you if you thought Luke was the Schenn that scored based on the title) found space at center ice and took the puck straight to Kings goalie Jonathan Quick uncontested. The scoring play saw Schenn get blocked on the initial attempt, but Quick's own momentum carried him into the goal along with the puck. The play was reviewed by the NHL HQ in Toronto and ultimately a goal was awarded to Schenn to give the Flyers the 3-2 win.
Ray Emery got the third consecutive start in place of struggling Steve Mason. Razor blocked 38 of 40 shots for .950 save pct. The win tonight pushed Emery's season record to 4-0-1.
The other Flyer goals came from Michael Raffl & Chris VandeVelde in the first period. Raffl scored his 5th of the year, tying him for the team lead. VandeVelde's goal was his first of the season.
The Kings goals came from Tyler Toffoli and former Flyer Mike Richards. Both teams went 0 for 2 on the power play.
The Flyers record now sits at 4-3-2. Despite the rough start, they have looked fluid lately, especially considering they faced the teams that won the last eight Stanley Cups all in the first 9 games of the season.
The Flyers stretch of playing quality teams continues Thursday at home vs. the Tampa Bay Lightning.
