The still winless Sixers took on the Celtics at the Wells cargo Center on Wednesday. With Boston entering with a 3 game losing streak, it seemed like a real opportunity for the 76ers to pick up their first win. Unfortunately it would not work out that way. Philadelphia got off to a nice start but as usual were outlasted by their opponent in the second half. The 76ers would lose yet again, 101-90.
Michael Carter-Williams and Nerlens Noel re-entered the starting lineup, as Brett Brown moved Tony Wroten and Brandon Davies to the bench. Sixers led by 5 after the first quarter and led by as many as 9 points in the first half but the Celtics battled back to tie it at 46-46 at the half.
Luc Richard Mbah a Moute led Philly with 11 points in the first half. The 76ers outrebounded Boston 27-19 in the first two quarters, but that would change in the 2nd half.
The 76ers started to let the game slip away in the 3rd quarter as their shots would not fall against the Celtic defense. Boston went on a 7-0 run midway through the 3rd quarter to break a tie and then opened the final period with a 9-2 run to build a double-digit lead. Although the Sixers would shave it down, a shot from Sullinger off a Rondo assist would give Boston another the double-digit lead with just over 2 minutes remaining and it would stay that way to the final buzzer. Boston handed Philly their straight 11th loss.
Philadelphia finished with 39.5% shooting from the floor, something they've struggled with all season explaining their league worst offense. Although both teams committed 15 turnovers (3 less than Philly's season average) the Celtics were able to take advantage and punish the Sixers with 24 points off turnovers.
Wroten showed he can still put up numbers in a reserve role, leading the team with 21 points and 7 assists but was ice cold from deep (1-6 3pt). Noel finished with 10 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists while rejecting a shot as he bounced back from a forgettable performance against the Spurs. MCW struggled to score, finished with 11 points (4-13 FG), 6 boards, and cashed in with 5 assists. Henry Sims added an efficient 14 points and 7 rebounds.
Jared Sullinger put in work for the Celtics with a game-high 22 points, 9 boards, and 4 assists. Rondo contributed 9 points and 13 assists.
The Sixers will stay home and host the Suns (7-5) on Friday.
