The above founding father, my friends, is a possible new alternate logo for the Sixers that has been floating around on various websites and Twitter feeds today. No confirmation on whether this is a legit change that's coming, but it wouldn't be surprising since it's coming on the heels of new logos for the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors.
There's been talk of the 76ers changing up their uniforms for the 2015-16 season, so this may just be a concept and not something that's actually been approved. Something tells me it's not going to be an actual alternate logo, but if it was it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. (Alternate though, I stress alternate, never use this as a main logo.)
The Sixers current logo is among the dullest in the NBA. The amount of teams that just throw their name in front of a basketball and call it a day is far too high (think Clippers, Lakers, Pistons, Heat, Magic, Nets & Thunder) and the Sixers are one of the offenders.
This logo would no doubt be one of the busiest logos in the NBA, even for an alternate, and might be better suited for the Delaware 87ers. Speaking of D-League teams, the Westchester Knicks have adopted a logo that is almost identical to this, based on the early era NY Knicks logo. (See below)
This logo and the main logo could not be on more opposite ends of the spectrum. The main logo could use a little adjustments (I don't know what, but I'm sure someone out there could whip something up), but this alternate is so busy I just don't know where the hell you would ever use it? This can't fit comfortably on a hat or shorts. I'm hoping that with the uniform changes in 2015 we can get some sort of logo that finds a happy medium. The Ben Franklin imagery isn't a bad start though.
