Aiken Looks to Stick with Kings

City of Basketball Love reported in early August that former Saint Joseph's big-man C.J. Aiken will be in camp with the Sacramento Kings this September. CoBL had interviewed Aiken, at which time the former Hawk said the Kings were looking to sign him to a training camp deal. Aiken (@cjaiken01) then tweeted a picture of himself signing a contract on August 31, and will now look to catch on with the Kings.

Aiken departed Hawk Hill following a disappointing 2012-13 season for SJU. Many questioned the decision for Aiken to leave a year early, but it seems like the right decision for Aiken personally (at least I think so). Aiken's numbers dipped a bit in his junior campaign, but he still remained a defensive force. His shot-blocking prowess alone causes shooters to think twice before releasing the ball, as he has a 7 foot 1 inch wingspan. The 6 foot 9 C/F may not have the ideal frame for any set position in the NBA, but his versatility will serve him well as he would most likely play somewhat of a hybrid position. If Aiken can add on some more pounds, he could become a force to reckon with.

The undrafted big-man had a solid summer league with the Kings, averaging 4.6 PPG and 2.6 RPG primarily coming off the bench. Aiken may need more time to develop, but he clearly showed enough to warrant a training camp contract. While he may not stick this year, the experience will be invaluable and you should look for Aiken to be a solid role player in the future. As fellow hawks, we wish C.J. the absolute best in all his endeavors. Go get em, Hawk Hill is behind you. THE HAWK WILL NEVER DIE.
