3/29/2015

Chase Utley continued to look solid Sunday in a small sample size so far this spring, hitting two home runs (video below) and walking once in the Phillies’ 4-4 tie with the Detroit Tigers.

Utley would get the day started on a strong note for the Phillies, cracking a two-run home run to right in the bottom of the first to put the Phillies ahead 2-0.

WrestleMania 31 (AKA WrestleMania Play Button): A Ranting, Raving Essay Mostly for Neophytes

Hello wrestling and Broad Street Beat fans, one and all. It is I, your favorite troll commenter and paragon of virtue, Dan Aleksander. I'm here to give you the run down and some predictions for the biggest non-sporting sporting event of the year, WrestleMania. It's going down this Sunday night, live on the WWE Network for just $9.99 (or on pay-per-view, if you're Total Deadbeat Rob Lowe).

Chances are this is the one time you probably might watch professional wrestling with someone, as WrestleMania equally draws in pro-wrestling devotees, lapsed fans and those affiliated with said fans but who otherwise have no connection to watching men and women in spandex pretend to grapple. This year's mega-event (The Super Bowl of Professional Wrestling / The World Series of Sports Entertainment) comes to you from Levi's Stadium in San Fra.. San Jo... Santa Clara, California - the house that Jim Harbaugh's $8.00 khakis built.

Here's a terse run down of the super card and its respective competitors, in case you need the primer or refresher course:

The sting of not hearing their named called on Selection Sunday is still evident for the Temple Owls.

While many teams struggle to recover from the heartbreak of missing the Big Dance, Temple has thrived so far in the NIT Tournament. That success continued Wednesday night, when the Owls blew past Louisiana Tech 77-59 to advance to the semifinals of the NIT in Madison Square Garden.

"I think the guys in the locker room, we want to make a point," Will Cummings said of the NCAA snub. "We're still kind of bitter about it. Our job is to just keep playing good basketball and winning games."

Temple Handles George Washington To Advance to NIT Quarterfinals

The NIT Tournament often serves as a team’s last chance to prove the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee wrong. To prove that they belonged in the Big Dance.

Temple sees things a bit differently however.

For the Owls, it’s not necessarily about proving anyone wrong, but rather taking advantage of every opportunity they have to continue their season.

Temple took advantage of that opportunity Sunday morning, moving past George Washington with a 90-77 win to advance to the quarterfinals of the NIT Tournament Wednesday night.

“We were kind of just looking to protect our home court and make a statement and that’s what we did,” said Jesse Morgan.

As Spring Training continues to get into full swing, the Phillies have made some roster moves and have some injury updates out of camp, so let's take a look.

Cliff Lee to the 60 Day-DL
The biggest news out of camp came earlier this week when the Phillies placed veteran left-hander Cliff Lee on the 60-day disable. The move follows a second failed attempt at rehabbing from a torn common flexor tendon in his left elbow.

Temple Tops Bucknell in First Round NIT Matchup

For most teams, the NIT Tournament serves one main purpose: prove the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee erred in its decision not to include them in the Big Dance.

On Wednesday night at the Liacouras Center, Temple began its quest to prove that the Selection Committee was sorely mistaken when it chose to include teams such as UCLA, Texas and Indiana rather than the Owls.

Senior Will Cummings would shine for Temple in its first round NIT matchup with Bucknell, scoring 30 points to lead the Owls to a 73-67 win over the Bison, and continue their quest to prove they belonged in the field of 68.
