Should We Be Happy the Phillies Were Swept By the Braves?

OK, so that may be a stupid question. But, allow me to play devil’s advocate (although some who know me well would say I’m Satan himself).

Prior to the start of their latest series with the Braves on Friday, the Phillies had gone 7-4 in their last 11 games and seemingly were still in this terrible excuse for a division we call the National League East.

That’s when the shit completely hit the fan. The Phillies lost four games in three days to the Braves. After being swept by the Braves, the Phillies have now lost eight of their past 10 games to fall 10 games below the .500 mark and eight games back in the division.

If you weren’t busy watching the NBA Draft or sleeping, you were able to witness an exciting Phillies win on Thursday night.

After 14 innings, and four hours and 41 minutes, the Phillies finally emerged victorious, as Chase Utley drove an 0-2 pitch to right field for a two-run walk-off home run in the Phillies’ 5-3 win over the Marlins.

Sixers Succeed With Embiid: 2014 NBA Draft

6/26/2014

"Be patient" was Sam Hinkie's message in the 2014 draft. With the third pick in the 2014 draft, the 76ers selected Joel Embiid from Kansas. The 7-footer from Cameroon emerged as the top prospect within the last few months until a stress fracture was discovered in his foot last week that required surgery. Falling to #3, the Sixers will made a steal if he can stay healthy. Embiid's freshman season at Kansas ended early with a back injury (why do the Sixers love injured big men?). Only beginning to play basketball in 2011, NBA scouts have been blown away with the progress he has made just within the last year. Embiid is the reigning Big 12 Defensive Player of the year and has a nice offensive game, with a back to the basket game as well as a good jumpshot for a player of his size. Joel will be a legitimate center with his size and strength. Embiid averaged 11.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks in 23 minutes in 28 games with Kansas. The #3 pick will miss part if not all of the upcoming season recovering from surgery.

The Sixers made a little bit of a surprise pick with PG Elfrid Payton from UL Lafayette. The pick was a bit surprising when the Sixers already have a point guard without a jump shot, but it became clearer when word emerged that Philly had traded Payton to Orlando for Dario Saric at #12. A future first round (originally Philly's from Bynum trade) and second round pick were also involved. The Croatian power forward just signed a deal earlier this week with Anadolu Efes, a Turkish team, which guarantees he will remain in Europe until at least 2016. The 6'10'' 20-year-old isn't a flashy athlete, but has a high basketball IQ, great vision and passing skills, and is a threat in the post. Saric was the Croatian League MVP in 2013 and the Adriatic League MVP in 2014.

Brown's Defensive Miscue Costs Phillies in Loss to Marlins

It should've been the third out. With two outs and men on first and second in the fourth inning, Marcell Ozuna ripped a line drive directly at Domonic Brown.

Brown would break in, however, only to see the ball sail just over his glove as he leapt in an attempt to recover from his misplay.

The result would be an RBI double for Ozuna, breaking a scoreless tie. The Marlins would score two more in the frame, as Jarrod Saltalamacchia followed Ozuna's double with one of his own, on their way to a 3-2 victory over the Phillies.

Since stringing together a five-game win streak last week, the Phillies had looked dismal, dropping three consecutive games as all momentum the team had built seemingly disappeared.

Tuesday night, the Phillies got back on the right track, as they scored early and often in a 7-4 win over the Marlins.

The above founding father, my friends, is a possible new alternate logo for the Sixers that has been floating around on various websites and Twitter feeds today. No confirmation on whether this is a legit change that's coming, but it wouldn't be surprising since it's coming on the heels of new logos for the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors.

Things started off well for the Phillies on Sunday afternoon in St. Louis.

They would not end well, however, as the Cardinals erased a 3-0 deficit, going on to a 5-3 win to top the Phillies for the second straight day and spoil a strong road trip for Philadelphia.
