On Tuesday, Phillies General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. announced that Pete Mackanin will remain in the role of interim manager for the rest of the season. Mackanin took over as interim manager on Friday following Ryne Sandberg’s resignation.

Mackanin has vowed to make decisions in the best interest of the Phillies organization for the future, but Amaro did not guarantee that Mackanin will have a job as manager after the season.

The Phillies announced Andy MacPhail as the organization’s next president in a press conference on Monday afternoon. MacPhail will officially take the reins as team president after the season, which for the Phillies is all but assured to end on October 4.

MacPhail will serve as an adviser to current President Pat Gillick until the end of the season, and said during his introductory press conference that he will use the remainder of the season  "to read, to watch and listen,” adding that “hopefully within the three months I'll have a clear idea of what I think is appropriate and needs to be done.”

After a poor showing in game one of Sunday's doubleheader against the Nationals, the Phillies were able to rebound in the second act. The Phillies would manage just five hits and two runs in the first game of the day against Washington, but a different offense would appear for game two.

The Phillies would rack up the hits in game two, totaling 16 in all, as they topped the Nationals 8-5 to avoid being swept in the series.

The Phillies are having an atrocious season. There is no denying that. On Sunday, they became the first team in the MLB to reach 50 losses when they dropped game one of a doubleheader against the Nationals, 3-2.

In a play that pretty much summed up the Phillies' futility this season, Jeff Francoeur did this in the fifth (video after the jump):

The Phillies called an impromptu press conference this afternoon, where manager Ryne Sandberg resigned.

Sandberg clearly saw the writing on the wall. Unfortunately, Ruben Amaro Jr. didn't resign simultaneously. But, could that be coming?

We can hope?

How Many Centers Does it Take? 76ers Select Okafor 3rd Overall

6/25/2015

In his 3rd draft as the Sixers' GM, Sam Hinkie again came out of the night with a highly rated center. First in a draft say trade to land Nerlens Noel on 2013, then at one time top rated Joel Embiid fell to Philly's 3rd overall pick with an ankle injury in 2014, and now in 2015 with Jahlil Okafor landing in Hinkie's lap.

The consensus top rated Karl Anthony Towns was unsurprisingly taken by Minnesota at #1 but the Laker shook thing up by taking D'Angelo Russell with the second pick when many thought Okafor was a lock for #2. Although Hinkie seemingly hoped to take scoring guard at #3, when he was off the table it was a no-brainer to select Okafor, once the top-rated prospect coming into his Freshmen season at Duke.

Hinkie's Time To SHine: Draft Day Decisions

6/25/2015

Here we are, on the day of Hinkie's third NBA Draft with the Sixers.  He's nabbed Nerlens Noel, Michael Carter-Williams,  Joel Embiid, and Dario Saric in the lottery during his tenure.  Noel is already one of the better post defenders in the NBA after just one full season and looks like he can bloom into a solid all-around player.  MCW was traded to the Bucks once Hinkie realized he couldn't shoot, a pretty important skill for a guard to have.  Embiid, after sitting out all of last season with a foot injury, will most likely sit this upcoming season as well.  Saric is still overseas, but will likely come over next season.

For the second night in a row, Maikel Franco racked up five RBIs for the Phillies, becoming the first Phillies player to record back-to-back games with five RBIs since the statistic was made official in 1920.

Behind Franco's continued torrid hitting, the Phillies were able to rack up the runs for the third game in a row, topping the Yankees 11-6 to take a 2-0 lead in the series and pick up their third straight win.
