The Flyers have acquired Steve Downie from the Colorado Avalanche straight up for Max Talbot. Downie joins the Flyers for his second stint with the team. This is a good trade and here's why.

Penn basketball has seen better days. The storied program that plays in one of the most historic arenas there is had a season many would like to forget in 2013-13. The Quakers finished the season with a 9-22 record overall and a 6-8 record in the Ivy League. Despite a rough season, Penn returns most of its stat leaders from last season and should improve vastly with another year of experience under their belts.
Last week was incredibly eventful fantasy-wise, and if you played against Calvin Johnson you probably were contemplating drowning yourself after the 1 o'clock games. Don't feel bad, I played against him in my work league so I share in your pain. This week doesn't get any easier in terms of bye weeks. Arizona, Denver, Detroit, Jacksonville, the Giants and San Francisco are all being lazy bums and taking the week off. It has turned what would have been an epic QB battle in my game this week (Stafford v. The Good Manning) into a Flacco v. a possibly hurt RGIII match-up. Thrilling. (Sidenote: I bet a friend of mine who's a Redskins fan that RGIII would get injured again before he runs for a 75 yd. game. Took me all of 3 quarters to win that bet.) You may need to get by on scrubs this week just to fill out your team. If Donald Brown is available in your league I do wanna remind you that he is now on a committee with Richardson and getting more looks, definitely a low-end RB2 this week because of all the byes. If Marvin Jones is available I'd also snag him to fill WR holes. Good luck.
No one expected the 76ers to come out in the season opener against the Heat and basically punch the two-time reigning champs in the face. Before the game, Allen Iverson, the greatest Sixer of the last 30 years, officially retired, marking a new era of the franchise. The Sixers, a team that was supposedly the worst in the league, certainly did not come out looking like a franchise in a rebuilding year against the consensus team to beat. This Philadelphia team proved they will not just lie down and lose even if they were built and expected to do just that.
The Wildcats put together a solid season in 2012-13. Expected to experience some growing pains, Villanova matured rapidly and finished the season with a 20-14 record. The Wildcats season came to an end in the first (I guess it's now called the second) round with a close loss to UNC, but the potential in the roster had been revealed. Villanova enters 2013-14 with a good stock of talent on the roster and will be a team to watch this season.
![]() The Anaheim Ducks not only lead the NHL in Italian-y sounding, last-named players, but now they also lead the NHL in wins (tied w/ SJ and Colorado) after storming back from an 0-2 deficit against the Flyers tonight. <--The Flyers offense receded in the third period faster than Ryan Getzlaf's hair line. ![]() Everyone has accepted that the 2013-2014 season will be a rebuilding season for the Sixers, which means tanking for a high draft pick and giving minutes to younger players. An unfortunate byproduct of this process is gutting the roster of established veterans, aiming to clear cap space and/or pick up other pieces for the future. Thaddeus Young is one of those players who may very likely be traded during the season and he is aware of it. Is he more of an asset on the trading block or as building block? The Eagles traded defensive tackle Isaac Sopoaga this afternoon to the New England Patriots. The Birds also sent a sixth-round pick in the 2014 draft and in return received a fifth-round pick from the Patriots.
![]() The Explorers are coming off a season for the ages in 2012-13. Finishing the season at 24-10, La Salle took home a share of the Big 5 title for the first time since 1997-98 and made their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 21 years. The Explorers would make a run come tournament time, advancing all the way to the Sweet 16 for the first time in 58 years, before the clock struck midnight on their Cinderella run against the Wichita State Shockers. The 76ers officially signed forward Brandon Davies today as they finalize their roster for the start of the season. Davies is an undrafted rookie out of BYU, best known for his suspension as a Sophomore for having premarital sex with his girlfriend (Gross! Am I right?!), therefore violating BYU’s “honor code”. After being reinstated, Davies was named to the All-WCC team both his Junior and Senior year. He averaged 17.7 points, 8 rebounds, 1.3 steals and .9 blocks during his senior year.
