Sixers Start Season off...Right way? Lose on Road

10/29/2014

The 76ers opened up their 2014-15 season on the road Wednesday, taking on the Pacers in Indiana. With the Sixers in full blown re-build mode and a large part of Indiana's roster dealing with injuries, this wasn't exactly must-see TV. Brett Brown's squad of misfits would stick with the Pacers and even hold a 51-48 lead at the half, but Philly could not hold on with their offense sputtering out in the 2nd half. The Sixers lost 103-91.

Schenn's Breakaway OT Goal Seals 3-2 Win For Flyers

10/28/2014

The Flyers continued their hot streak tonight against the defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings. After playing to a 2-2 draw, Brayden Schenn (laughing at you if you thought Luke was the Schenn that scored based on the title) found space at center ice and took the puck straight to Kings goalie Jonathan Quick uncontested. The scoring play saw Schenn get blocked on the initial attempt, but Quick's own momentum carried him into the goal along with the puck. The play was reviewed by the NHL HQ in Toronto and ultimately a goal was awarded to Schenn to give the Flyers the 3-2 win.

Breaking News: Sixers Still Tanking

10/27/2014

As the NBA season approaches, the Sam Hinkie and the 76ers continue to show their rock solid commitment to tanking the upcoming season(s) in order to build a successful team down the road. Over the past weekend, the Sixers completed a trade with the Nets that sent G Casper Ware to Brooklyn for G Marquis Teague and a 2019 second round pick. A bit surprising as Ware looked good in the summer league but you know Hinkie can't deny chance for a second rounder. Teague was cut shortly after the trade was completed.

On Monday, the Sixers completed another trade with another Atlantic Division rival, sending Arnett Moultrie to the Knicks for Travis Outlaw, a future second round pick, and the rights to swap another future second rounder. Philly is expected to cut Outlaw as well as the Sixers and their cap room continue to act as a dumping ground for the NBA's unwanted contracts. Moultrie's tenure with the Sixers was shaky at best. He had problems staying healthy and in shape and was expected to make an impact last season but only played in 12 games and averaged 3.0 ppg and 2.9 rpg.

Eagles Lose Battle Of The Birds To Arizona

10/26/2014

In what should have been the sixth win of the year for the Eagles, they instead struggled down the stretch, as they went on to lose 24-20 to Arizona.  Foles threw 62 passes and finished with 411 yards passing, but he need just 16 more to capitalize on the final drive.  After some bad coverage on defense after the two minute warning, Foles and the Eagles' offense was left with 81 seconds to march down the field and get a touchdown.  They got to the 16 yard line for the final play, but the pass was thrown a bit too close to the sideline as Jordan Matthews caught it, but was shoved out of bounds before being able to get both feet down.

The Flyers are now 12-2-1 overall at the Consol Energy Center, home of the Pittsburgh Penguins, since its opening. Five different Flyers found the back of the net tonight, including Pierre-Edouard Bellemare with his first NHL goal, which is why I wrote half the title to this recap in French. Vive Pebbles!

Flyers Fall to Blackhawks 4-0

10/22/2014

This abomination of a game was just because the Flyers are saving their momentum for tomorrow night against a much more hated Pittsburgh Penguins team...right? Right? Somebody tell me that's what this was! Intentions aside, the Blackhawks roughed the Flyers up tonight to the tune of a 4-0 blowout. Patrick Kane had 2 power play goals and Mason gave up four goals for the third time this season.

The Phillies announced today that they have agreed to terms with Jerome Williams on a one-year, $2.5 million contract, which includes performance bonuses.

The 32-year-old right-hander was solid in his short time with the Phillies last season, compiling a 4-2 record and 2.83 ERA in nine starts after being claimed off waivers from the Texas Rangers in August.
