Phillies Deal Byrd to Reds

The Phillies continue to unload veterans, as it appears the club is finally beginning to recognize a full rebuild is needed.

On Wednesday, the Phillies sent outfielder Marlon Byrd and cash to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for right-handed pitching prospect Ben Lively.

The 37-year-old Byrd is coming off a season in which he hit .264 with 25 home runs and 85 RBIs for the Phillies. Byrd is scheduled to make $8 million in 2015 with an $8 million vesting option for 2016.

Temple Knocks Off Defending National Champion UConn

Temple picked up their fourth straight win of the season Wednesday afternoon, giving them 10 wins before heading to 2015 portion of the season.

While there is still plenty of season remaining and lots of work to be done, the Owls have already achieved one of their goals: topping last season's win total.

Temple did so with a 57-53 overtime win over defending national champion Connecticut on the road, as the Owls kicked off their conference schedule.

76ers Blown Out By Warriors

The Sixers had a tough match-up with the best-in-the-west Warriors on Tuesday at Oracle Arena. Philadelphia's league-worst offense showed its true colors throughout the contest as they struggled to score and protect the ball. The Warriors (25-5) pulled away early and the Sixers had no chance of catching up. Philly (4-26) would lose its third straight game, 126-86.

Flyers Denied Points in the Desert

Steve Mason returned to the line-up tonight after sitting out the last four games with back spasms, unfortunately the rest of the Flyers decided not to show up, at least not for the first 50 minutes. Antoine Vermette scored a hat trick for the Coyotes (Edit: No he didn't. His first goal was actually credited to Shane Doan) and Oliver Ekman-Larsson chipped in to give Arizona the 4-2 win. R.J. Umberger scored the 2 Flyers goals in the final half of the third period, but it was too little too late.

Daniel Bryan Set To Return to Royal Rumble in Philadelphia

Daniel Bryan made a major announcement on Monday Night Raw.

Bryan had sent the below tweet out earlier in the day, and after Raw opened with a recap of Edge's retirement speech, there were plenty of nervous fans wondering if this could be the end for Bryan.

Saint Joseph's Falls to Denver in OT

Saint Joseph's squandered a seven-point lead over the final 5:10 of regulation time on Monday night against Denver, as the Pioneers forced the Hawks into overtime.

Denver would go on to score the first five points in the extra period on their way to a 77-73 overtime victory over the Hawks.

The Pioneers came out of the gate firing, taking a 15-4 lead just 4:20 into the contest, but Saint Joseph's would respond with a 13-1 run over the next 3:39 of play to take their first lead of the game at 17-16.

City 6 Rankings: Week 7

While there weren’t too many games this week for the City 6 schools, there was plenty of action, as Temple knocked off #10 Kansas in a 25-point rout. It was Christmas come early for Fran Dunphy and his squad following Monday’s big win, but things are just beginning to heat up as teams prepare for the start of conference play.

Bond and Morgan Key in Temple Win Over Delaware State

Jaylen Bond would key a quick start for the Temple Owls on Sunday afternoon against Delaware State, polishing the glass and finding the basket.

Behind eight points and eight rebounds from Bond early, the Owls would jump out to a 16-5 lead midway through the first half.

The Hornets would threaten a bit in the second half, but with the help of improved shooting from beyond the arc, Temple was able to hang on for a 66-56 win.

Eagles Win Last Game Of 2014 Season Vs Giants

Although the outcome would be meaningless with last week's elimination from the playoffs, the Eagles weren't ready to call it quits yet, defeating the New York Giants on the road by a score of 34-26. The win gives the Eagles a 10-6 record for the second consecutive year under Chip Kelly. Sanchez threw for 292 yards and two touchdowns to go with one interception. 10-6 was good enough to win the division last season, but wasn't enough this year, as the Cowboys finished 12-4 on the year.

Sixers Offense Sputters Out In Utah

The Sixers continued their road trip in Utah on Saturday night. It was not a pretty game for either team, but Philadelphia's offense especially struggled. The 76ers managed only 71 points on 32% shooting in a loss to the Jazz.
