Atrocious Offense Dooms Sixers in Brooklyn ; Call UP Roberts

The Sixers challenged the Nets in Brooklyn on Friday, the second matchup of the season for the Atlantic Division rivals. The Nets were victorious, 99-91,in the first meeting in late November and the 76ers would again fall in Brooklyn. After keeping it close through 3 quarters, the Sixers futile offense would let their opponents pull away. Philadelphia (2-20) would lose 88-70, tying their lowest offensive output of the year.
The Sixers kept up with the Nets for the majority of the game despite their inability to score in the paint. Philly actually led 45-44 at the break and trailed by only 3 entering the final period of play. What doomed the Sixers was a 10-0 Nets run to start the 4th quarter as Brooklyn built a 73-60 lead before Robert Covington nailed a 3-pointer off a transition assist from MCW. At that point, the 76ers' offensive issues were too great to overcome. Philadelphia only managed 10 points in the final quarter and 25 points in the second half leading to their 20th loss of the season.

The 76ers shot a terrible 32% from the field, and set the record for fewest 2-point shots made in the shot clock era with 11. PHL actually managed to shoot a better percentage from beyond the arc (39%). They scored only 18 points in the paint compared to Brooklyn's 42. Philly also turned the ball over 23 times. Noel committed 5 TOs while Wroten and MCW added 4 each.

Covington was inserted into the starting lineup for the first year this season after providing scoring off the bench. He finished with 20 points (6-10 3PT), 6 rebounds, and 3 steals. Carter-Williams scored 14 points and added 9 assists and 6 boards. Sims also scored 14 off the bench. Nerlens missed all 8 FG attempts and was held scoreless. In his first game back from injury, Wroten provided 12 points and 3 assists but missed 8 of 10 FGs.

Mason Plumlee led the Nets with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Joe Johnson and Alan Anderson both contributed 12 points. Deron Williams added 10 assists but was held to only 3 points.

Before the game it was announced that the Sixers called up Ronald Roberts from the Delaware 87ers. The former SJU Hawks forward has started all 8 games for the Sixers D-League affiliate and has averaged 18 points and 12 rebounds per game. The athletic Roberts played well in both the Summer League and pre-season but was assigned to the 87ers before the start of the NBA season.

Philly waived both Kirilenko and Gutierrez who were acquired in this week's trade with Brooklyn.  Former Sixer Brandon Davies played only 1 minute for Brooklyn in this one, but he scored 4 points, recorded 1 rebound, 1 assist, and 1 steal. Talk about efficiency.

The Sixers will face the Grizzlies (18-4) on Saturday in the second game of their back-to-back.
