Unfortunately for Williams and the Phillies, the bullpen was unable to maintain the lead, as the Phillies surrendered seven runs to the Angels in the sixth inning on their way to a 7-2 loss.
Williams would allow a home run to lead off the bottom of the sixth and cut the Phillies’ lead in half, but would then get Mike Trout to strike out swinging. Albert Pujols would single in the next at-bat, bringing Williams’ night to an end, as Antonio Bastardo was tapped in relief.
Bastardo would get dominated, as the Angels scored six more runs in the frame to quickly erase the Phillies’ lead.
For his efforts, Bastardo would receive a blown save and the loss, as he allowed five runs (four earned), while recording just one out.
